Fernando is a Partner at Cases Lacambra in Spain.

He has more than twenty years of experience in the financial sector. His practice is primarily focused on financial regulation and investment funds, complemented by significant experience in financing transactions. He advises financial institutions and asset managers on a wide range of complex regulatory matters, with particular emphasis on the structuring, authorisation and ongoing operation of investment funds, including UCITS, alternative investment funds (AIFs) and securitisation vehicles. His experience also includes the design of investment structures—such as closed-ended funds and bespoke “authored” strategies—as well as the establishment of advisory structures within fund platforms.

In addition, he regularly advises on regulatory perimeter issues, extensions of activity programmes and cross-border passporting processes for both Spanish and international entities, including in emerging areas such as crypto-assets.

His regulatory practice covers ongoing advice to credit institutions, investment firms, insurance companies, management companies, payment institutions, e-money institutions and crypto-asset service providers, including in relation to structural changes, capital transactions, corporate governance and interactions with supervisory authorities. He has also served as secretary to the board of directors of numerous companies, including listed and regulated entities, and as a board member of both public and private companies.

Fernando combines his legal practice with academic activity. He is or has been a professor of Corporate Law at Universidad Pontificia Comillas and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and regularly lectures in postgraduate programmes and professional institutions in Spain and internationally, including Universidad San Pablo-CEU, Universidad Internacional de La Rioja, Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, Escuela Libre de Derecho (Mexico City), and the Madrid Bar Association.
